Ministry Opportunities with GMI
Do you have a heart for serving God through fulfilling
His global mission?
GMI is a place where evangelical Christians serve international
ministry leaders through the tools of research, training, GIS, information technology,
and communications support. We welcome dedicated people to serve with us in
a variety of relationships: as a full-time or part-time staff member, as a volunteer
or on a short-term project; or as part of our internship
and apprenticeship programs.
GMI applicants have gifts and skills to serve in various
specialized roles, including: research, training,
GIS, information technology, communications,
management, and fundraising.

Ministry Areas
Research
research design, coordination, analysis, and assistance in the following
disciplines:
- applied missiology - exploring emerging mission movements and methodologies
- marketing - helping GMI better understand the needs of church and mission
leaders around the world in order to better serve them
- information technology - exploring innovative, appropriate technology
for church and missions in the Two-Thirds World
- ministry impact evaluation - helping international ministries evaluate
their current impact and explore innovations for greater effectiveness
- ethnography - observe and analyze mission environments
Training
- mentoring - coaching ministry leaders in strategic research projects about
their own ministry situations
- training - technical training via mapping workshops
- tutoring - one-on-one training of leaders in specialized research, mapping
and/or information technology skills.
- teaching - on select missions, research, and information technology topics
- curriculum development - for technical workshops, research seminars, missions
conferences
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- cartography - designing and developing maps for international missions applications
- database development - developing and updating geographical and statistical
databases for international missions
- training - supporting church and mission leaders in learning to effectively
use and apply the Global Ministry Mapping
System (GMMS) to their ministries
- user support - helping GMMS users accomplish their desired tasks, trouble-shooting,
consulting
- software development - creating GMMS extensions and developing the online map server
- GIS sales and consulting - helping ministries understand their GIS needs
and find the right solutions for them
Information Technology
- web design & development - using HTML, PHP, Perl, Java Script, and SQL
- programming - in Visual Basic, C++ and others as projects demand
- database administration - in FoxPro, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Access
- CD-ROM development - converting books to various digital formats
- help desk/technical support - providing technical support to the community
of thousands of users of GMI CD-ROM resources as well as supporting GMI's
staff and associates
- network analyst/system administration - maintaining and upgrading GMI's
network, file, mail, and Web servers
Communications
- writing and editing - reports, newsletters, proposals, promotional material
- desktop publishing and graphic arts - for newsletters, website, brochures
and promotional materials
- speaking and presenting - at churches, missions conferences, college events,
seminars
- representing GMI - at church, mission, and student conferences; marketing
and sales of GMI resources
Management & Administration
- administrative assistance - word processing, email and telephone correspondence,
administrative support
- project management - managing GMI projects to ensure quality, timeliness,
and cost control
- customer service - making sure the people we serve have their questions
answered and are well-supported in their use of GMI resources
- financial management - planning and budgeting
Fundraising
- representing GMI - helping to support the mission of GMI through correspondence,
speaking, and one-on-one presentations with donors
- grant writing - research and writing in support of GMI projects
- planned giving - working with donors regarding their giving plans
